Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco are the stars of the new vampire hunting movie "Day Shift". The movie is about a blue collar working dad who wants to provide for his child's happiness. But, his mundane job at the pool in San Fernando Valley serves as a front for hunting and killing Vampires as part of an international Union of vampiric hunters.
The premise sounds fun, but can director J.J. Perry deliver?
The movie's opening scene features a bizarre action sequence in which Jamie Foxx shoots at an elderly lady who turns out be a vampire. This then becomes a nuts fight sequence between the two of them that is such a blast. The movie's use of ragdoll physics in its action scenes makes them pop in a way that many other action movies (or blockbusters) do not.
Day Shift is another non-serious, fun film that I felt I could truly enjoy the entire time. I didn't think about it too much. There was great action that was new and it was enjoyable to watch. It had good humor and I found myself laughing out loud a fair bit. It did draw inspiration from some brilliant vampire (Day Shift vampires) films, such as Blade and Lost Boys. These films are also some my favorites. The acting was flawless, the directing excellent and the cinematography very impressive. Day Shift is a film that's both entertaining and lighthearted. It's lots of fun.
Day Shift was a very mixed movie. There are some great action scenes and fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but the villain is terrible and there are a lot more mediocre characters. However, that makes Day Shift even more enjoyable. There seemed to be missing scenes that were cut. Bud's neighbor acts like they're friends, even though before the final scene she maybe had 3 minutes of screen time. Bud's prank phone calling at the gas station was the best moment of the movie. It was hilarious, and I loved watching it. However, the movie didn't end as well. Day Shift has a mixed record. Some parts are great, and some parts are terrible. You could find a better movie if you are looking for some laughs.
Snoop dogg makes the entire movie worth watching. Snoop Dogg is loved by everyone. He's the definition of cool.
